Mar 28, 2014 · If you only use the cementitious value of the concrete mix, we are using between 20 % and 50% of the cementitious material being fly ash/slag. I understand that LEED wants to encourage the use of fly ash/slag and is allowing the project teams to use this higher value for recycled content. My confusion is whether I use this percentage against the total cost of the concrete mix or if I need to break out the cementitious material cost of the concrete.
Recycled Content - Concrete, Sand, Stone, Gravel and ...
There are two methods for calculating recycled content. For example, assuming the following: 5,000 yards 3; 4,000 pounds per yard; 600 pounds cementitious; 200 pound slag/ash (33%) $100 per yard 3; $50 cement per yard 3 Method 1: Based on Concrete (200/4000)*0.5 (pre-consumer recycled content) * 5000 * $100 = $12,500 of recycled content.
DETERMINING THE RECYCLED CONTENT OF CONCRETE MASONRY PRODUCTS ...
Concrete masonry walls are eligible for recycled content credit under the LEED for Homes Materials and Resources Credit 2: Environmentally Preferable Products, provided the masonry contains at least 25% recycled content (post-consumer plus one-half pre-consumer, as described in the following sections).
LEED for Concrete Products & Cement for Building Material ...
LEED for Concrete & Cement Products for Building Material Construction. To demonstrate LEED v4 product sustainability performance, building product manufacturers are required to submit Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
Concrete is relatively heavy and can be crushed and recycled; 50% of waste recycled or salvaged: 1 point; 75% of waste recycled or salvaged: 2 points; Important note: for concrete, just one of the “building reuse” or “construction waste management” credits can be applied for; Recycled Content: Number of points varies from 1 to 2. GIB 15 (Recycled Content in Infrastructure) Max. Points: 1 Precast Advantage Precast concrete products may contain supplementary cementitous materials such as fly ash, which will add to the projects recycled content goals. Precast concrete products may also contain rebar and welded wire mesh made from recycled steel.
Navigating the complexities of LEED v4 with concrete masonry ...
Dec 28, 2015 · For example, under LEED 2009, six points (from three separate credits) could be awarded for products with recycled (i.e. MRc4, Recycled Content), regional (i.e. MRc5, Regional Materials), or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified content (i.e. MRc7, Certified Wood), whereas in LEED v4 the individual attributes of recycled and FSC content are combined, and “Regional materials” is not a separate credit, but is rather introduced as a value multiplier that applies to several credi
pre-consumer) This credit is awarded if concrete consists of at least 30% fly ash, slag, or other cement substitute and/or 50% recycled content or reclaimed aggregate by volume, or 90% recycled content or reclaimed aggregate based on the IS0 14021 definition. LEED v4 recognizes fly ash as 100% pre-consumer recycled product.
Seasonal Concrete Pouring Can Impact the LEED Recycled ...
Mar 21, 2013 · The time of year when concrete is poured can directly impact the project’s LEED ® MRc4 – Recycled Content contributions. In most large-scale commercial and residential building developments, concrete is among the largest and typically most expensive building materials.
CRSI: LEED - Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI)
Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post-consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre-consumer content constitutes at least 10% or 20% for an additional credit (based on cost) of the total value of the materials in the project. CONCRETE MASONRY & HARDSCAPE® PRODUCTS IN LEED 2009 - NCMA
Recycled materials can be used as a partial replacement for cement, or as aggregate. A full discussion, including calculation methods for recycled content, is discussed in TEK 6-6B, Determining the Recycled Content of Concrete Masonry Products (ref. 12). Expand your AEC business by educating yourself on the LEED® v4 program. Request information from precast concrete suppliers with regard to Recycled Content, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and ask for any other documentation that may assist you in pursuing LEED® credits under the new v4 version.

Nov 04, 2009 · Recycled content in steel plate is about 65%. HSS sections typically are not made with recycled steel and should be avoided on LEED projects. The Steel Recycling Institute, Pittsburgh, reports that the post-consumer recycled content is about 64% and the post-industrial recycled content is about 30%. Credit MR 5.
